For Takoon carbon baseplates: precise trim tuning, in a material that lasts the season.

On a carbon baseplate, everything is stiff and everything is transmitted. That's what makes the setup precise, and also what makes the choice of shim important: placed between the Takoon carbon baseplate and your board's track box, it becomes a structural part in its own right. It changes the foil's angle of attack and lets you adjust your trim without changing anything on your wings.

Why we refuse PLA

PLA is the default 3D printing filament: easy to print, cheap, and completely unsuitable for water sports. It softens from 55-60 °C, deforms under the screws' load when it heats up, and becomes brittle with moisture. A PLA shim that has crept no longer has the angle written on it.

We print in PETG: UV-stable, unaffected by salt water, rigid over time. With a minimum thickness of 15 mm, the shim gives full support under the baseplate and absorbs the mast's loads without creeping.

Choosing the right angle

A positive shim lifts the board's nose: you take off earlier and fly higher, at the cost of a little pitch-up at high speed. Conversely, less angle gives a more neutral and faster board, but more demanding on take-off.

0.8° – 1.0° to refine a setting that's already good. 1.2° – 1.5° for most wing foil setups. 2.0° for a strong correction. If you're unsure, take the smaller of the two angles.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference with the non-carbon version?
The geometry is adapted to Takoon carbon baseplates. If you have a standard Takoon baseplate, take the Takoon version.

Do I need to change the screws?
Yes, allow at least 15 mm more than for direct mounting. Also check the thread depth available in your track box.

Does the shim damage the carbon baseplate?
No. PETG is softer than carbon and acts as an interface. Tighten in a cross pattern and progressively, without over-torquing.
